Not all Home Service Management Software is built for maid companies.  In fact, very few are.

Most Service Based software is designed for Plumbers, HVAC, Electrical, Tree Service, Snow Removal, and Lawn service.

When we started our maid company, "It's Maid Day' in 2010, we conducted a thorough review of over 30 home service-based software systems before choosing ServiceCEO.  Today there are over 60 software companies that say they service the home services industry.

In 2023 we were notified that ServiceCEO was being phased out and that we would have to migrate to the Parent Company's system WorkWave.   We reviewed WorkWave very closely but it was not as useful as ServiceCEO, and it did not include the functions we have been wanting for a very long time. 

 

In 2023 we conducted a detailed review using over 70 questions regarding functionality and price.  We contacted over 60 Home Services software companies.  In the first phase of our review, we focused on the following top questions to weed out companies.

• Can automatic service reminders be sent including the price of their service and arrival time in the reminders?

• Can reminders be email and/or text?

• Can we modify each reminder including selecting and de-selecting reminder methods at the customer level?

• Can we send a reminder one week before (or whatever time we want) PLUS the day before?

• Can we modify a future job and have the reminder automatically send the correct modified price in the reminder?

• Can we send a satisfaction email/survey after each cleaning?  Can we send it to more than one contact?

• Can you set up alternating jobs for the same customer?  For example: One service includes the basement, the next excludes the basement, and then alternate jobs into the future.  

• Can payroll reports be pulled by Cleaner including the time on the job based on clocking in and out OR by the time allocation of the job?

Although our questionnaire included over 70 questions, these 10 questions eliminated all but 4 software companies.

We next looked at the following factors as we narrowed down the list.

​

• Is the Reporting robust?  Can we pull a report on anything, everyone, at any time without having to hire an expert?

• Is the price affordable and does it provide an ROI?  One of the software companies required a percentage of our gross revenue like we were going to partners or like a franchise.  And they were super expensive.  No way!!!

• Can our cleaners in the field have an app that is easy to use, we can track them in the field through the app, we can choose what the cleaners see on the app, can get driving directions with a click of a button, can attach pictures, text customers OR not based on our access control, and many other key factors.

This eliminated 2 more companies including the well-respected Service Titan.

Our review did not include the following maid-based software companies because they include their pricing tool, which we believe is insufficient and leads to more problems than they solve.  Most of them do not give the maid company owner access to modify their own website.  In most of these, the maid company does not own its own website.  That is bad on many levels.  And the website they set up for you looks just like every other maid company.  Although they look nice, they are generic in every sense of the word.  In the competitive world of maid service, you have to stand out.

The review came down to 2 software companies.  After many meetings with both companies and some limited demo trials, we were torn between the two.  We decided to go with the company that had the most reviews, although they were the most expensive of the two. 

 

We started converting over 5,000 previous customers and over 8,000 active jobs.  It took us about 2 months to set up and convert all of our customers.  Almost immediately, we knew we made the wrong decision.  The system did NOT work as demonstrated, was down often, and despite getting their management involved many times, we just could not get their system to work as promised and demoed.  It was one of the worst feelings I have ever had in running companies for over 35 years.  I was truly sick over it.

Although we signed a one-year contract, we just could not continue with them.  We scaled back the users to the minimum which was still over $500 a month, and went with the second company, only after we reviewed everything once again, set up demo accounts again, and tested the system to the extreme.  Although we were gun-shy because we made a bad decision previously, we converted once again to the new company operating system.
